Holiday Oversize Load Restrictions FAQ

Can oversize loads move on holiday weekends?
It depends on the state. Many states bar permitted oversize and overweight loads on the holiday itself, and some extend the blackout across the whole long weekend. The table lists each state’s published window for the holiday you pick.
Do holiday restrictions apply to legal-size freight?
No. These blackouts apply to permitted oversize and overweight moves. Legal-size freight follows normal rules, although individual cities, tunnels and bridges can set their own truck curfews.
What are the dates of the major trucking holidays in 2026?
New Year's Day: Thu, Jan 1, 2026. Memorial Day: Mon, May 25, 2026. Independence Day (July 4th): Sat, Jul 4, 2026. Labor Day: Mon, Sep 7, 2026. Thanksgiving: Thu, Nov 26, 2026. Christmas Day: Fri, Dec 25, 2026.
Where do I confirm the exact holiday cut-off for my load?
The conditions printed on your permit control. Open the state’s oversize guide from the table for its permit office and portal, or order through a permit expediting agent who tracks blackouts for you.
